Interim 1 Presentation

many of the group presentaion didnt done well for today. reason being we had focused at the wrong areas. we only thought about the transition but we didnt really show much about the storyline - the learning jouney/outcome in our year 1.

hmm. it seems like some things actually need not be done first. like the call sheets. yoke ee mention to us that, our storyline havent even approved yet, and we already planned out the production. actually before i started planning the call sheets, i thought its an easy task. however, it isnt, u have to think very thoroughly. like the cast clothes, whether there will be different in video scene if u forward the shooting one day, whether the room u wanna use is booked by ppl before you, etc. detailed things. now efforts seemed to gone. hmm

i think we will make some amendment to our storyline. which means, what we had done before that, we have to redo again.

i have realise that doing simple things can be powerful in conveying message. fanciful stuff is indeed much more visualise and attractive, however, the most important thing that lies in a video is the message.

Last Minute Work

Interim 1

Tomorrow is our Interim 1 presentation, we are suppose to present our idea to our lecturers and to ensure we are in the right track. There are many work to finish, unlimited wants but limited resources. Through the pre-production, at first I am quite worried if my group can finish on time, because most of us belong to the last minute worker, but through the pass few days and today performance, I see the spirit within STOKE. They are willing to finish fast and get another task straight away without resting. This is also my first time being busy by giving out task.

I am happy with today performance, but hopefully we don't practice last minute work, because it is very unhealthy for everyone of us. Everyone want to have a good night sleep right? Therefore work fast and reduce playing, instead play at the right time. I know is hard for some of you, but gaming is an entertainment, it is a want product not need product, we cannot afford this habits to carry in your working career next time.

Story board!!!

I have learnt that for video production, is impossible to do all the work alone.
Like for example,for the script, i think it will be best if all the group members gone through it together. This to give a clearer ideas for all other members what we are doing exactly to prevent other from doing other parts of work differently.

I am the one that supposed to draw the story board, therefore i will need to understand the script well. It took us two days to completely cover the whole script and make the camera angle right.
Sham helped me to draw some of the story board because it is too much for me to handle.
We manage to finish within the time and i think i am satisfied with the story board.
I will need to write down all the camera shots by tonight so that we can move on tomorrow.

I think i feel comfortable blending into the group now, although at first i dont feel good.
Hope everything will go smoothly.

3 more day

Today we met at 11 am . Most of the work today mainly are the discussion of the script and finalising the script so that the storyboard can start. We discussed on the effects intended for the changing scenes or during the scenes and how it can be doned. We did some experimental shots and put a lot more focus on the story board.

Class Consultation

today during the class consultation, i learnt something new which is writing a script. Initially i thought there is only one type of format which is the master screen. There's actually another type of format that is the double column format - Video and Audio. It will be better to use the double column format as if we want to change scene 1 to scene 2, it will be more much easier. Also, we can check whether the timing we set clashes.

today, we discussed and edited our scripts again..i find that it is kinda difficult to put things together. camera angles, lightings, any technical stuff u can think of, have to take into consideration. it was then i realise preparations and plans are so important for video production. i guess animation production also apply the same way too. it is no wonder pre-production took some time. however, we can never really expect what will happen..we can only predict, research and plan to ensure things fall in place.

today is monday. interim 1 is around the corner.. we have to get our engines startworking.

Start to peak up

Today we meet in school at 10am, discussing our progress and thing to improve, for example our story content, hence to let Chii Terng know where we are up to. Shameer finish the logo in digital format after we have discuss yesterday and I am happy that he is willing to animate it in Adobe Flash. Through sharing of our knowledge, Janice and I are able to let Shameer experience more thing from what he have left out in Animation Fundamentals lesson. I guess this consider as teamwork. Lolx

As for our new member Chii Terng, he is very helpful and volunteer to work with the storyboard. Janice on the other hand are good at gathering information and paper work. She took down the pass exercises/assignments details into powerpoint thus recalling our memories on the portfolio to showcase. Apart of that, currently I am starting with trailer or maybe opening sequence for our video. Thanks to Brain that gave me inspiration on using Adobe After Effect as I am not really flexible with it. But I explore something new today.

Lastly I think, it is a good news that our group have a mixture of different strengths and it is about us to make it useful.

Stoke~~~~

From today onwards i will be joining this group for my moipj1,
the reason is because there are only two of us in another group,
I am afraid that it will not be fair for another group member because i will be having two module next month too.
therefore i think is better to split the group because the work load will be very heavy for him since i have two modules.

I think will be hard blending into the group for both of us
however i think this is the best solution for both and us since another group member of us just decided to disappear just like that.

I will need to know all the other group members ' individual ideas and their final idea of the video.

i hope i will be able to blend into the stoke soon...

Discussion

Today during our discussion, we thought of combining some of our ideas together. In terms of content, we thinking of mentioning all of the modules except for one - comDI. However, we may wanna reconsider again for the content (whether is it too draggy) or we still can add in the comDI part.

Also, we discussed about certain effects. We realise some of the effects we know how to say, but doesnt know whether we can do it or not. however, we had somehow make a guess on how they did it. it's just that we need some time to do it, which means we have to start early.
we re-designed our "3stoke" logo, so that we can actually put that inside the video and make effects.

As for tommorrow, we will be meeting up to discuss about the location and finalise our ideas and content, so that we can come up with the mood board and story board earlier..

Individual Presentation

Today presentation on individual possible solutions was indeed a disappointment for me, because I feel that my contents can be express further. Another reason would be the lack of preparation on solution two, thus I focus too much on solution 1 and end up having no time for improvement.

The other reason would be less time spends through the PowerPoint that causes a miscommunication while presenting.

I would like to share this, a PowerPoint consist of keywords not more than a line. Our job is to present those keywords not reading it out. Main reason of applying keywords is to get audiences attention. Having the projector screen for you to read, I rather you give a speech. Projector screen is big hence it is for the audiences to read. But if your texts are unreadable from the screen due to font size too small or too many words, how you expect the audience to read. Having eye contact is the key element of not holding your script thus it is a manners. Explaining the keywords will should how prepared, confident and amount of contribution you spend.

Monday

We had our storyline and other stuff discussed the week before.

We had our consultation and some lessons on Monday. The main lesson to take out from monday is script writing. Script writing come in two types Master Screen : Film and Drama. And Dual Column : Infotainment & the others
Our video is mainly in the genre Infotainment. Thus, our scipt have to be changed to Dual Column because i accidentally made with the master screen format without knowing. But we managed to have it done.
We have discussed about the storyline draft and thought of a couple changes ... none includes major changes to the story line just minor effects and camera angles.

Consultation Day on Individual Solutions

Today we discussed together about our ideas, as in what genre are we gonna do during the class and at Itask canteen. However, each of us is still squeezing our brain juice to think about the solutions. tuesday individual presentation is kinda stress for me.

I did a survey with potential MOI students just now. Some modules which I didn’t expect them to choose and they chose that. I can see that they really don’t understand MOI well enough because I asked them what they know about our course, the answer given wasnt right.

Actually before I came to this course, I didn’t know really much about it too. However, I never regretted coming in here. I think we should make some videos that really influence not only the potential MOI students, and also other students who are interested in our course. Maybe we didnt face any problems from the intakes now, but we still have to provide those information for those who are interested. So as to help boost their interests in here.

Assignment Brief

Today we get to know more about our Assignment thanks to the second brief and we also get to watch the pass year work from our seniors. That really gave me a clear view on what we suppose to come out with and what we shouldn't do. But I must highlight, no copying be original.

Presentation on Exercise

Our submission for our first exercise was today.

Design Statement
To create an active healthy lifestyle for the younger and older generationto promote bonding between the two generations.

Our proposal

Solution #1 E-bonding games

To create an e-bonding interactive mahjong computer game for the elderly and the young to enjoy. Promotes online interaction and communication between the two parties. Also a good way of having the older generation keep up with the rapid advancement of technology.

Solution #2 Campaign

-To create a campaign
-To create a new lifestyle
To teach the younger and older generation the problems at hand through a series of fun outdoor activites fit for both the young an elderly. With a hub as the focal point, we propose a long-term plan to promote bonding between the two.

Today we had our presentation done. I think that we did quite well and we are well-prepared for the presentation. Most of the research and reading we did helped us alot in explaining our ideas.

As for the reference we get for our research are mainly surveys, interviews and online articles.

I think this exercise already gives me a brief idea how our final assignment would work. I think this experience is going to be helpful, if it isnt for today it would be for tomoro.

Woo! Done and complete. One whole night we burn to do our proposal and powerpoint presentation slides all paid off and now we can have a good night's rest :D.

Day before presentation

Our first survey help us to determine what kind of areas we need to look into for propose our solutions.
Our second survey allow us to improve our proposed solutions.
We interviewed elderly to understand certain things that they are looking for to put into our proposed solutions.
We also did mind maps and brainstorming over the weekends in order to keep us on track.

Today we compiled and analyzed our surveys and interview results. We realized some of the results are not the same from what we have predicted. Many problems were highlighted in our solutions. We then looked into our solutions again to come up with a better ones. We had a hard time thinking about it. We even thought of giving up on one of the current solution. However, it's not the best and the right way to give up at this point of time. It's not an excuse for us. We have to continue since we already have the research done. And tomorrow is our presentation, our slides were also done halfway.

Research really do help us a lot as some issues we might not think of will be raised up. This allow us to improve our proposed solution to achieve our objectives.

Steps of Design Proposal

Just completed the new blogskin, hope this can help to portray a better understanding of MOI and add some fun on it. Anyone that know how to remove the blogger bar at the top, please inform me or tag me, because I really have hard time finding ways of removing it. Thanks!

Today lesson was about steps of writing a proposal. It was quite a disappointment for us because we never get to the point. As researching the proposal, I am quite confused that there are two type of proposal appearing and I mistaken that both are the same. But actually design proposal is much more different when writing it, for example being more details expressing it.

Last Friday is a free day and we did come back to school and discuss about the possible solution. We also went to library for research but never notice that design proposal can be found there. I just think we should take library into big use next time.

Synopsis

As for me, I personally feel that writing proposal is a skill and the power of words you use on it as to sell your idea for funding or approval. As for a designer, we present visually, so when we convert into writing, we need to be specific and details in every parts. Keywords and objective must present clearly so as to please the clients.

Stoke! I think is time to speed up on our progress. Left with one day of preparation, must give all out. Tomorrow no class, therefore meet in design entrance at 10am, don’t be late since we all only have 1 module this block. Good Night =)

Consultation

During today's lesson, Siewcheng told us more about our design >60 centre and show us some of the portfolios done by our seniors. We have seen 2videos done my MOI seniors for their FYP.

In the first video, it talks about the young boy who didn't want to recognise the old man that came to live with him as his grandpa. He dislikes his grandpa to follow him and irritated by him when he does not know how to use the controller. However, one day, he accidentally free his grandpa beloved bird. He felt guilty. So he took the intiative to apologise to him by we putting a fake bird in the cage, and label the different types of controller so that he can recognise which one to use. The grandpa smiled when he saw that. These actually improve their relationship. The bad point from this video is that the quality are not so good.

In the second video, it talks about 2 families. The old man and the young boy to represent each family. They both share the same thing in common is that they does not feel loved from their families. The old man was irritated by her daughter-in-law to nag at him to stop watching dvds while the young boy was being ignored by his mother as she was busy. When he wanted to share the joy of him scoring high marks, his mother treated him coldly. Her mother thinks that he only play psp everyday. He was agitated and ran out of the house. Then, the old man and the boy bang into each other. They sat down and talk about their problems. Then they both went home. The boy's mother was waiting for his return. When he reached home, his mother hugged him tightly. As for the old man, he took the initiative to eat dinner with his daughter-in-law and stopped watching dvd. This video handle audience's feelings very well. Heard from SiewCheng that the student of this production, had actually found a audio-mixer person to help him composed songs. Quite cool. However, this video actually does not really convey much messages regarding the bonding between the elderly and the youngsters.

Therefore, from here we have learnt that to focus more on content and not really much on quality though it is important too.

For our consultation, our solution wasn't really being accepted. Reason being our solution only helps promote active lifestyle in elderly but didnt tacke the issue on bonding them with youngster. I think we should do more research to further develop our ideas followed by doing survey. Hopefully we can completed the survey by Sunday. :)

Victric Thng Visit

This morning we get a chance to meet Victric Thng, Singapore filmmaker and our ex-senior. During the sharing section, I gain some knowledge of editing techniques and inspired by his words of making TP proud. His short film let me see a different way of telling story unlike those we normally see in cinema and the shot consist of composition that is interesting to look at. I have selected some short film from Victric Thng that gives me an impact and idea of filmmaking.

Moonly 追月

I like the way he capture the moon, it seen like the Moon is running and we are trying to catch it. It somehow brings my focal point into the Moon and I am still able to get the message by listening attentively to the voice-over.

Goodbye, Firefly 再见萤火虫

This is like a classic film to me with simple editing technique at first. But it gives me a shock when I see the part where both shot combine together. It seen simple but hard to achieve. To me I think it consist of many layering.

Twogether

This film is similar to the previous short film regarding editing. I am surprise by the review of achieving it. At first I am thinking of using like a dolly to close up the gap, but actually it is edited in the post productions. Both already together, no need any physical movement.

Locust 遗失的蝗虫

I like the opening of the film because I am able to gradually absorb what the film is about. I guess the hardest part is to film with crowded places and still achieve what you want. From his case, I can say he is daring and lucky.

The Mole (Trailer)

Lastly this film inspired me to have this idea of merging both video and animation together. To me this kind of video is like the new age of editing. It looks fun and interactive. Pls Create A TagBoard

Hi 3stoke,

I like to highlight a point made by Shameer in case all of you get this wrong.

Firstly, Interim 1 & 2 serve as checkpoints (graded checkpoints of course) for your final submission, they are NOT the "aims for the final". Checkpoints or interims are there to make sure that at the end of 2 blocks you don't end up submitting the wrong thing and get a poor grade for all your time and efforts, hence its good to clear ALL YOUR DOUBTS as early as possible.

Nice blog. Keep up the good work!

MOIP1

Today we had our lecturer clear up some misunderstandings and answer some of our questions. So it turns out that our exercise and our final assignment are actually two different things and we had little problem understanding and got it mixed up as one assignment.

Thus, For the Council for Third Age in Singapore exercise, we now clearly understand that we have to come up with 2 possible ideas for an inter-generational program to bring the younger and older generation closer, promoting a more active lifestyle among the the senior citizens.

Yesterday we had our own research done and today we presented of what we have read up upon to each other. Making ourselves understand better of the situation as well getting more knowledgable on how to tackle this problem more efficiently.

Our lecturer also taught us the proper steps to take before getting to the final decision. And a few things to bring out from the lesson was,

-Interview

-Survey

Thus with a quantative research(Bigger Range) we then can match the research to the problem then we can explore all the possible solutions to solving our design problem.

Note* Tomorow's class starts at 9 am and after 12 we have no class, which Siew Cheng has given us that time to do our work. So we can proceed to interviewing older and younger generations.

First Day

Today we discussed about our duty roaster to prepare us for our MOI Project One Assignment.
We decided that we are posting entries everday alternatively.
